For Woven in Govan, our commissioned artists have created work which is inspired by, or represents, the stories and voices of women who are working as carers and/or in healthcare. The artworks also engage with the increased care burden of women during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Appointed artists are socially-engaged practitioners with decades of experience working with local communities to create innovative, temporary artworks in Govan's public realm. Commissioned artists developed work in Scotland in solidarity with post-industrial waterfront communities across Europe, as part of a 'glocal' response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In February 2021, seven artists began working alongside each other on six commissions, collaborating with local partners and speaking to local people working within healthcare or the care sector. Our artists are: t s Beall (Lead), Ailie Rutherford / Alex Wilde, Audrey O'Brien, Deirdre Nelson, Donna Rutherford, and Ursula Kam-Ling Cheng. Local partners include N.H.S.Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC), Scotland in Europe (SiE), Govan HELP, and Govan Docks Regeneration Trust (GDRT).

A final exhibition is scheduled for September 2021 at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. Artworks will also be available to view online in a digital exhibition which will be shared through local, national and international networks (Memory of Water and River Cities Network).

Documentation of the artworks and artist interviews have been produced by Fablevision Studios.
